Narrative Structure
The key conceptual term that we have chosen for week 5 is that of narrative structure which is main point we focus on and developing with our design. Ravelli (2008, p. 29) suggests that “buildings with dynamic vectors are narrative structures and that they tell a story.”This week, our group concerentrate on this theroy and changing the shape of swimming pool , sofa, as well as tabale. At first, we designed a quadrate swimming pool(Fig.1), after we learned this class, we found that the shape of rectangle is kind of rigid, because the main function of our house is for vacation,so people can get closer when they have fun in swimming pool with curve shape(Fig.2).Then we also changed the shape of sofa, as you can see, in the beginning, we also used rectangele(Fig.3).However, we thought when the family chatting togther, it is better to make the curve shape(Fig.4),so that they can communicate with each others easier around one table. So the same reason we changed the dining-table. For this class, I learned that even just have some small changes on original design with shape, it will completely changed and tell different story for people and represent different meaning.
